Summary ***This is a seasonal position, anticipated to work 40 hours per week for approximately 5 months*** Under close supervision of County Maintenance Technicians, assists with day-to-day general duties of the Road Operations Division of Skagit County Public Works.
Essential Functions Assists County Road Operations crew with duties such as flagging, mowing, weeding, vegetation control, and a varied range of maintenance functions to repair and maintain County roadways.
Supervisory: None.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: May be tasked with performing related duties. Related duties as required are duties that may not be specifically listed in the position description, but are within the general occupational series and responsibility level typically associated with the employee's classification of work.
Minimum Qualifications Any combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical path to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- No professional experience required.
Requires knowledge of: - Work hazards and safety procedures.
- Basic principles of road maintenance
Requires the ability to: - Work with people in a courteous manner
- Follow oral and written instructions
- Remain constantly alert, both mentally and physically, and remain calm in road emergency situations.
- Communicate effectively with other employees and the public
- Work safely under potentially hazardous road or weather conditions
- Pass a drug screening test
Licenses and/or Certifications: Valid Washington State driver's license.
Washington State flagger certification desirable.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must have hand-eye coordination to operate equipment, ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand, walk, climb, and perform extended periods of physical labor.
Hazards: Most work is in the field, with exposure to extreme weather conditions, rough terrain, potential hazards from road conditions, or road machinery and equipment.
