We are seeking qualified Surveyors or Rodmen who have knowledge of GPS/GNSS Survey Equipment and are willing to learn from our current survey staff.

We are looking for a qualified Carpenters to cut, fabricate and install wooden formwork as well as work with steel formwork for bridge structures.

We are also looking for qualified Concrete Finishers & Laborers associated with carpentry and concrete placement on Bridge Construction Projects.

Finally we are seeking Heavy Equipment Operators related to Highway Construction.

Jobs will entail working in diverse settings to produce quality work for the 1 of 3 projects between New Bern and Beaufort, NC. Individuals who are capable of following all health and safety standards is essential. Training and guidance will be provided for site specific standards and procedures.

Carpenter Responsibilities

A carpenter is an individual with great hand dexterity and an eye for detail. The ideal candidate will have good knowledge of wood properties and other carpentry materials.

  • Read plan drawings and sketches to fully grasp requirements
  • Take measurements and calculate the size and amount of material needed
  • Cut lumber and other material (e.g. fiberglass) according to measurements
  • Build bridge forms, overhangs, soffits, etc. using raw materials or pre-constructed items
  • Lay out base items such as for slabs on grade.
  • Inspect places and conduct repairs or maintenance for any safety items needed such as temporary hand rails, etc.

Carpenter Skills

  • Proven experience as carpenter
  • Hands-on experience in working with carpentry materials
  • Excellent understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction
  • Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, squares, etc.)
  • Ability to read documents and drawings
  • Willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times
  • Good understanding of basic math
  • Good physical condition and endurance

Concrete Finishing Responsibilities

Concrete Finishers should have a good knowledge of concrete properties and the ability to work with cement and sand to create a quality finish on the face of the concrete while it is in all of its states: Wet, Green and Curing.

  • Proven Experience as a Finisher
  • Proficient in using electrical and manual equipment and measurement tools (powered saws, hammers, squares, etc.)
  • Ability to read documents and drawings
  • Willingness to follow safety guidelines at all times
  • Good understanding of basic math
  • Good physical condition and endurance

Heavy Equipment Operators

Heavy Equipment Operators should know the basic mechanics of heavy yellow iron including major manufacturers such as CAT, Deere, Volvo, Komatsu, Etc. and should be proficient at operating a particular style or multiple styles of Heavy Equipment. Major types that are actively running on-site are Bull Dozers, Front End Wheel Loaders, Hydraulic Excavators, and Off Road Dump Trucks.

  • Proven experience operating Heavy Equipment (particularly related to earth moving)
  • Knowledge of mechanics and understanding of the needs of Heavy Equipment and general Maintenance
  • Ability to read documents and drawings is a big plus
  • Understanding of GPS systems is a plus
  • Knowledge of earthwork and the properties of earth, including compaction needs, density, stability, etc.
