Unit Assistant /Monitor Tech (Nights)!

 
What You'll Do:  

  • Monitoring telemetry patients at the Central Monitoring Station.
  • Manage the clerical duties associated with preparing, compiling, and monitoring the patient record 
  • Enters and processes orders accurately as demonstrated by:
    • Enters communication requests in Meditech.
    • Scheduling tests, procedures, treatments, including entering in the computer
    • Competency – Complete annual review of review EKG exam.
  • Facilitates communication for the nursing unit by:
    • Responding to patient call system within one (1) minute.
    • Answering telephones promptly, utilizing positive communication skills.
    • Sending patient inquiries to appropriate caregiver.
    • Following policy and unit-based standards in Code Blue/Emergency situations.
    • Relaying interdepartmental information to the appropriate caregiver.
    • Complies with UA II standards for cardiac escalation protocol.
  • Applies knowledge of cardiac rhythm interpretation/documentation as demonstrated by:
    • Identifies dysrhythmia on annual dysrhythmia test with 85% accuracy.
    • Demonstrates accurate cardiac rhythm interpretation on an ongoing basis with 85% accuracy.
    • Documents individual cardiac rhythms per unit guidelines.
  • Reports cardiac rhythm changes as demonstrated by:
    • Communicates life threatening cardiac dysrhythmia to a Staff Nurse.
    • Communicates non-life threatening cardiac rhythm changes and dysrhythmia of the Staff Nurse within 15 minutes of occurrence."
  • Monitors the heart rhythm pattern of patients to detect abnormal pattern variances, using telemetry equipment
  • Reviews patient information to determine normal heart rhythm pattern, current pattern and prior variances.
  • Observes the screen of the cardiac monitor and listens for the alarm to identify abnormal variation in heart rhythm.
  • Informs the Registered Nurse of variances to initiate examination of the patient
  • Measures length and height of patient’s heart rhythm pattern on graphic tape readout, using calipers, Posts information on patient records.
  • Monitors telemetry patient’s cardiac rhythm, blood pressure, SpO2, and respiratory rate while on telemetry/cardiac monitoring.
  • Prints rhythm strips every 4 hours for Registered Nurse Interpretation.
  • Prints strips for RN review on any critical “Red” alarm per the Cardiac Telemetry Monitoring and Management Policy.
  • Maintains patient records.
  • Assists with ordering and maintaining department supplies.
  • Utilizes positive communication skills to effect conflict resolution and teamwork.
  • Maintains and improves organization and operations of nursing stations.
  • Maintains a safe and clean work environment.
  • Contributes to cost effective patient care by monitoring use of time, equipment and supplies.
  • Complies with safety policies and procedures in order to provide a safe environment for employees, patients and visitors.
  • Demonstrates necessary flexibility in regard to changes in Hospital or department activities.
  • Actively participates in achieving departmental goals.
  • Applies knowledge of cardiac monitor guidelines.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Maintains and updates patient records as demonstrated by:
    • Replenishing chart forms per unit guidelines.
    • Accurately dating and labeling chart forms.
    • Appropriately thinning charts per unit and Hospital guidelines.
    • Organizing chart contents for surgery, tests and procedures.
    • Disassembling charts upon patient discharge.
    • Filing various reports and forms.
  • Applies knowledge of cardiac monitoring equipment as demonstrated by:
    • Enters patient demographic data in computer.
    • Sets appropriate alarms and parameters for optimal dysrhythmia recognition.
    • Troubleshoots equipment problems.
    • Maintains adequate monitoring supply stock.
    • Notifies Biomedical Department and Charge Nurse of equipment failure."
What You’ll Bring:
  • ECG (EKG) Certificate.
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • 1 year experience in an acute care facility preferred.
  • Successful completions of Medical Assistant or a Certified Nursing Assistant program preferred.
  • Need to be able to interpret ECG’s and what the waves mean. Continuous observation of a central ECG monitor with anywhere from 8-29 patients.
  • Experienced in watching the monitor and understanding and interpreting the ekg readings to recognize and identify any arrhythmias.
